Hi Michelle, Linda's idea of you showing our quilts and 'things' on some site does sound great. The commission you take should take care of the costs. You and Simon do need to brainstorm this idea. Wow, but a site like this certainly makes the world a small place.

Michelle,
I have been reading thru some old post here on the Business sight and I noticed this selection of conversation about you and Simon possibly adding a place where we could sell our quilts through the website and that you two were going to discuss it. I am guessing since there has been no more talk of it that you decided not to add that option. That has been several months now so I was wondering if maybe we could ask you to rethink it at this time.

Tennye, have you checked out this site? www.etsy.com/index.php It is a place similar to e-bay, but less commercial. There seems to be a lot of crafters here selling their items.

If you don't want to sell there at least you can check out what people are selling their quilts for.

Chris,
I've checked that link and it has some delightful quilts. But Did you notice that most of the prices on them we could not buy, make, sell & give commission. It would be like giving your hard work and time away. There has to be a better answer than that. That is if you your using quilting store material.

In the many pages i looked at only a very few were "real" price world. And people look at lower price items so you would be listed but not selling. There are more quilter's than buyer's in this time of our life.

Hopefully this will turn around, but I don't think so any time soon.

Post edited by: suzyq.2, at: 2008/01/18 14:40

Sue, you have a good point. There are a number of sellers who are under selling there labor. That does not mean you won't sell at a higher price. There are people who are.

Anyway, it is that very reason that I have not attempted to sell my own work yet. It is a tough market. When you consider there are so many mas produced quilts in stores today that are much cheaper than anyone of us could make.

If you are serious, then you will do your research and find out places and prices to sell your quilts.

Just for fun, here is another site I looked at recently.
www.buyaquilt.com/

I did see some higher priced items, there with sold on them so who knows?? You have to find a buyer who appreciated the work you put into your quilt.

I have a formula for figuring out how to price your work, but I will have to look for it. If I find it I will post it here.

Take care,
